At HCDSB, we believe in the dignity of all people, knowing that all children are created in the image of God. We recognize and value the importance of freedom of religion, and honour the many customs, traditions and beliefs of the individuals who make up our vibrant HCDSB community.
Freedom of religion is an individual right and a collective responsibility. We are committed to working with the communities we serve to foster an inclusive learning environment that promotes acceptance and protects individuals from discrimination and harassment on the basis of their religion. We take all reasonable steps to provide religious accommodations within the legal rights afforded to Catholic schools.
Parents and guardians or students 18 years or older, may request religious accommodations through verbal or written information about the specific accommodation.
How to Request Religious Accommodations for Your Child
There are two ways to request religious accommodations:
Call your child’s school and talk to your child’s teacher or the School Principal to let the school know about any religious or creed-based accommodations your child may need, including a list of dates of holy days or observances.
OR
Submit a completed Religious Accommodation Request Form to your child’s teacher or Principal.
The school will keep a record of the conversation or submitted form to accommodate your child’s needs.
Where possible, accommodation requests should be presented at the beginning of each school year to ensure that scheduling of major evaluations, such as tests, assignments or examinations, takes into consideration the religious observances. Accommodation will be provided in accordance with the principles of dignity, individualization, and inclusion.
Please contact your School Principal for additional information regarding Religious Accommodation.
