HCDSB is home to a diverse population of newcomers from across the globe and Canadian-born, represented by ethnically diverse students and families in our schools.

In the Spring of 2019, HCDSB received funding from the Ministry of Education to implement a Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy Project (CRRP).

The project was developed to further the 91pro视频鈥檚 commitment in building inclusive learning environments that support all students to Achieve, Believe and Belong.

A total of 35 participants from 9 secondary schools engaged in 3 days of learning and sharing as part of the CRRP project on the question: 鈥淲hat happens when secondary school educators understand and unpack their own positionality in order to gain deeper insights into the lived experiences of racialized students?鈥

Surveys were administered to staff before and after the project to assess the overall impact.

Highlights of the Project:

  • Increased understanding of participants鈥 own identities in relation to racialized students;
  • Increased knowledge of appropriate terminology related to inclusion and privilege;
  • Over 95% of respondents agreed that the project will have long term impacts in the school community;
  • 100% of respondents agreed that the project has provided new strategies to help foster equity in our schools and classroom environments.
