Parents or guardians may apply to have their child attend an HCDSB school other than their designated鈥痟ome school. The process of transferring schools within the HCDSB is referred to as the Cross Boundary School Attendance process. All students must first be registered at their home school before a Cross Boundary School Attendance application is submitted.
Approval of a cross-boundary request is鈥痭ot guaranteed鈥痑nd depends on space, staffing, and student enrollment at the requested school. Until written approval is provided, students remain registered at their home school, and families should plan accordingly in case the request is not approved – including making any necessary childcare or before and after school arrangements at the home school.
Cross Boundary Requests for Optional Programs
- Cross-boundary requests are not required for students who have been accepted into an optional program which is not offered at their home school.
- A cross-boundary request is required for a student to attend an optional program (e.g. French Immersion, Extended French, Advanced Placement, etc.) that is outside of their boundary.
- Schools that are deemed 鈥渃losed鈥� will not accept cross boundary applications for siblings of students enrolled in optional programs.
- Students enrolled in an optional program who opt out of the program, will be required to return to their home school.
