For more than 30 years, Nancy faithfully served HCDSB as a teacher, Vice-Principal, Principal, and Superintendent of Education. Throughout her distinguished career, she touched countless lives through her unwavering commitment to Catholic education, her dedication to students and families, and her deep care for those she served.

Nancy was a respected leader, mentor, and colleague whose influence extended far beyond the schools she supported. She was known for her compassion, wisdom, and ability to make people feel valued and supported. Whether working alongside staff, celebrating student achievements, engaging with families, or supporting school communities, Nancy led with humility, grace, and a genuine love for others.

As a member of our senior leadership team, Nancy played an important role in shaping and strengthening our Catholic school system. Her leadership helped foster learning environments where students could thrive academically, spiritually, and personally. Her legacy will live on in the many schools, communities, and individuals she inspired throughout her career.

Nancy’s passing is a tremendous loss for our HCDSB community and for the broader Catholic education community. While we mourn her loss, we also give thanks for the gift of her life, her faithful service, and the lasting impact she had on generations of students, staff, families, and colleagues.

As a symbol of our collective grief, flags at all HCDSB schools and the Catholic Education Centre have been lowered to half-mast.

We ask our HCDSB community to keep Nancy, her family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn her passing in your prayers.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)

May Nancy rest in the eternal peace of Christ.

Celebrating Staff Excellence and Service at HCDSB /2026/06/celebrating-staff-excellence-and-service-at-hcdsb-2/ Tue, 02 Jun 2026 15:11:31 +0000 /?p=355318 On May 27th, 2026, the 91pro视频 proudly honoured 159 staff members celebrating 25 years of dedicated service, and 39 staff members retiring at the end of the 2025鈥2026 school year, during our annual Celebration of Staff ceremony.

The evening began with a beautiful Eucharistic Celebration presided over by the Very Reverend Monsignor Cornelius O鈥橫ahony, with support from Vlad Mamaradlo, School Chaplain at Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School.

Staff honourees were led into the ceremony by Graeme Sutherland, who offered a moving performance on the bagpipes.

Musical accompaniment was provided by the Sacred Heart of Jesus Student Choir, under the direction of Valerie McElroy and Michelle Bender. The choir was also accompanied by Marina McCallum (pianist) and Debra Bertoia (flautist).

This year鈥檚 celebration was made especially memorable through the creative efforts of our students:

  • Under the guidance of teacher Rick Karniej, students in the SHSM program at Corpus Christi handcrafted elegant maple charcuterie boards for our 25-year honourees, and designed and produced beautiful cheeseboards for our retirees.
  • Floral Arrangements: Stunning floral arrangements were created by students in the Horticulture SHSM program at Notre Dame, under the leadership of teacher Jake Coleiro.

The ceremony reflected the spirit of our Catholic learning community 鈥 a community rooted in faith, service, and excellence. It was a meaningful opportunity to recognize the dedication of our staff while showcasing the remarkable talents, creativity, and contributions of students from across the 91pro视频.

Congratulations to all of this year鈥檚 staff honourees and retirees! Thank you for your years of faithful service, commitment to student success, and lasting contributions to Catholic education in Halton. Your dedication has made a profound difference in the lives of students, families, and colleagues.

A Letter from Director Klein ~ June Updates /2026/05/a-letter-from-director-klein-june-updates/ Fri, 29 May 2026 16:35:03 +0000 /?p=355268 As we enter the month of June, a month devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we are reminded of the many opportunities we have as a Catholic learning community to reflect on faith, hope, dignity, and belonging. Rooted in the example of Christ and guided by His love, we are called to accompany one another with compassion, mercy, and respect.

At the 91pro视频 (HCDSB), we remain committed to nurturing safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning and working environments where every student, staff member, and family is valued, respected, and supported.

June also holds significance across Canada as National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month. This year, Ontario will also recognize the first official Ontario Day on June 1. Together, these observances invite us to deepen our understanding of one another, honour the diversity within our communities, and continue walking together in a spirit of justice, reconciliation, and hope.

Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

This year, our Catholic community is invited to pray together in preparation for the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

During Catholic Education Week, we reflected on our shared call to be pilgrims of hope on the pathway to holiness. As we continue that journey together, we pray that the love of Christ鈥檚 Sacred Heart 鈥 a heart that overflows with love for each and every one of us 鈥 may guide our words, actions, and relationships within our schools and communities.

Our novena begins with a preparation day on Wednesday, June 3rd, and ends on Friday, June 12th, on the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus .

As the oldest novena in the Church, it remains a powerful way to pray for renewal, guidance, and unity.

Learn more about the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, with a special focus on National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st. Throughout the month, we honour the history, cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and M茅tis Peoples. It is a time to deepen our understanding of Indigenous identity and perspectives 鈥 including treaty relationships, leadership, resurgence, and creativity.

In HCDSB classrooms, students will engage in learning that reflects Indigenous experiences, stories, and voices 鈥 helping to foster greater awareness, respect, and reconciliation.

Learn more about Indigenous History Month at HCDSB.

Ontario Day – June 1st

On June 1, schools across Ontario will recognize Ontario Day, a provincial observance that celebrates the people, cultures, histories, and contributions that have shaped our province.

Established under the Ontario Day Act, June 1 marks the anniversary of the day in 1867 when Ontario officially became a province. Ontario Day provides an opportunity to reflect on our shared history, celebrate the rich diversity of our communities, and learn more about the people, places, and events that continue to shape Ontario today.

Throughout the day, students across HCDSB will participate in learning experiences that encourage curiosity, reflection, and civic engagement while exploring what it means to be part of Ontario’s story.

Pride Month

As Catholics, we believe that we are all made in鈥痶he鈥痠mage and likeness of God, who created us and loves us unconditionally 鈥 just as we are. In keeping with鈥痶he鈥91pro视频 motion passed on January 18, 2022, throughout鈥痶he鈥痬onth of June, our Catholic Education Centre and each of our HCDSB schools will fly鈥痶he鈥疨ride鈥痜lag鈥痑s a symbol of our commitment鈥痶o鈥痭urturing safe, welcoming and inclusive communities.鈥燬chools and the Catholic Education Centre will raise the Pride flag on the first instructional day in June 鈥 this year, that date falls on Monday, June 1, 2026. In our Catholic schools, we welcome and value all students, families, and staff, and celebrate the diversity within our communities. Holy Week: A Time of Reflection and Preparation /2026/03/holy-week-a-time-of-reflection-and-preparation/ Fri, 27 Mar 2026 20:05:37 +0000 /?p=354753 Holy Week marks the final days of Lent and is one of the most important weeks in the Catholic Liturgical year. Observed from March 30th to April 4th this year, Holy Week invites the Catholic community to pray, reflect, and build a deeper understanding of Jesus鈥 journey and sacrifice.

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of our journey through Holy Week. On this day, we remember Jesus鈥 triumphant arrival into Jerusalem, where He was welcomed with palm branches. These palms symbolize joy and hope, while also reminding us of the challenging days to follow.

Holy Thursday is the first day of the Paschal Triduum which observes the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. On Holy Thursday, we remember the Last Supper where Jesus gathered with His disciples, shared bread and wine, and washed their feet. This day also marks the institution of the Eucharist, reminding us of Jesus鈥 promise to remain with us.

Good Friday, the second day of the Paschal Triduum, is a solemn day where we remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. Through prayer, fasting, and abstinence from meat, we reflect on His sacrifice.

Holy Saturday is the final day of the Paschal Triduum and is a time for rest, prayer, and reflection. In the evening, the Church gathers for Easter Vigil, the most sacred celebration of the Liturgical year. The lighting of the Paschal Candle and celebration of the Resurrection symbolize the transition from darkness to light.

HCDSB’s 5th Annual Skilled Trades Career Fair /2026/03/hcdsbs-5th-annual-skilled-trades-career-fair/ Mon, 02 Mar 2026 21:39:11 +0000 /?p=354311 On Saturday, February 28, 2026, the 91pro视频 (HCDSB) Student Success Department welcomed students and families to the 5th Annual Skilled Trades Career Fair at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School in Milton.

The event brought together more than 600 families 鈥 representing an estimated 2,000 to 2,500 visitors 鈥 for a day dedicated to exploring the many opportunities available through the apprenticeship pathway. Designed for students in Grades 7-12, the fair created space for meaningful conversations about future pathways and helped students begin to see how their interests and talents can translate into fulfilling careers.

Throughout the day, participants gained a deeper understanding of careers in the skilled trades. Representatives from colleges, trade unions, and local businesses across Halton Region and beyond filled the gymnasium with interactive displays and hands-on demonstrations. Through these exhibits, attendees gained practical insight into day-to-day work environments, essential skills, and long-term career opportunities. Students and families also explored the pathway to becoming a skilled tradesperson, including training requirements, certifications, and the structure of apprenticeship programs.

HCDSB also hosted a recruitment booth during the event, highlighting opportunities for skilled trades professionals to join the 91pro视频 as skilled trades educators. As interest in the trades continues to grow among students, HCDSB remains committed to recruiting experienced industry professionals who can share their expertise and inspire the next generation of skilled trades workers.

The event highlighted the growing demand for skilled trades professionals and reinforced that apprenticeship is a respected and viable post-secondary option that allows students to build on their unique strengths and talents.

The energy in the room reflected a shared commitment to helping students discover pathways that align with their interests, abilities, and aspirations. By providing early exposure and direct access to industry partners, the Skilled Trades Career Fair continues to open doors and broaden horizons for HCDSB students.

The event was attended by several community and education leaders, including Zee Hamid, MPP for Milton; Natalie Pierre, MPP for Burlington; Chair of the 91pro视频 and Milton Trustee, Marvin Duarte; Burlington Trustee, Brenda Agnew; Oakville Trustee, Chris Saunders; HCDSB Director of Education, John Klein; along with members of the HCDSB senior staff team.

Thank you to the many vendors, partners, staff, and families whose participation made this year鈥檚 event such a tremendous success.
